To enhance economic development and support a thriving mining industry, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced over $50,000 to the Baie Verte Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
The Baie Verte Regional Task Force Committee was created in 2024 by mining industry stakeholders and the Town of Baie Verte, facilitated by the Chamber of Commerce. Its goal is to collaboratively address common challenges facing the regional mining industry, ensuring not only maximum economic benefits, but also that the region has the necessary infrastructure, community services and tertiary business environment to properly support the mining sector. The Provincial Government is providing $40,500 in funding to support the development of a Regional Strategy to be better prepared for the potential growth of the mining industry and growing needs of the area.
The Baie Verte Peninsula Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual mining conference where participants from all over Canada and European countries gather on the Baie Verte Peninsula to discuss the local mining industry, the industry’s latest technologies and global mining updates, as well as potential regional development opportunities. To support the 36th Annual Mining Conference that is currently underway, the Provincial Government provided $10,000 in funding to ensure its continued success as it has grown over the past 36 years to up to 250 participants.
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
The Regional Development Fund is comprised of the Regional Development Program and Community Capacity Building program. These two components provide a wide array of services and financial support to non-profit organizations, including industry associations, municipalities, public educational institutions and other non-profit groups including co-operatives and economic development organizations.
