To enhance economic development and advance tourism, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced $177,500 for the Town of Gander.
This contribution will support enhancements the tourism sector, help boost the local economy, promote sustainable practices and foster partnerships.
As a primary service hub for the Kittiwake Coast, the Town of Gander is working to increase visitation and stays in Gander and area. The project will assist in developing a tourism strategy and the purchase of equipment to improve experiences at the many festivals and events hosted by the Town of Gander and its partners, including the Gander production of Come From Away.
This project also aims to improve capacity to host more frequent and diverse tourism events year-round, capitalize on opportunities in the sport tourism sector and identify opportunities to work with other towns and communities in the Kittiwake Coast as a means of benefitting the region.
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
The Regional Development Fund is comprised of the Regional Development Program and Community Capacity Building program. These two components provide a wide array of services and financial support to non-profit organizations, including industry associations, municipalities, public educational institutions and other non-profit groups including co-operatives and economic development organizations.
