To support business planning and development for artisans, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced $67,000 from the Regional Development Program for the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art and Design to support two projects to further grow the centre’s activities.
The Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art and Design is receiving $49,400 to support the offering of mentorship and business development training to emerging craft entrepreneurs through the Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios business incubator.
The Crafting Sustainable Businesses Project will provide personalized business mentorship for emerging craft entrepreneurs operating from the Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios, as well as through outreach programming aimed at new and emerging business owners throughout the province. These training and mentorship opportunities have proven invaluable for craft-based business owners, helping them navigate the challenges of running a business while managing the production of high-value handcrafted products and better positioning them for success.
With an investment of $18,000, the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art and Design will undertake a phased business plan and functional assessment of their location at 278 Duckworth Street and the art and craft-based programming offered throughout the year. This planning will support work to determine the organization’s potential for programming and allowing for the expansion of operations and an increased role in providing professional craft and art training and public cultural programming.
The Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art and Design is a not-for-profit organization that has been offering classes and workshops from its Duckworth Street location for over 30 years with hands-on instruction and inspiration, to seasoned makers as well as new entrants into the craft industry.
Programming at the Artisan Studios can be a transformative resource for craft makers considering entrepreneurship, providing them with the tools, knowledge, and community needed to turn their passion into a sustainable business. By offering workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities, artisans can refine their skills, develop business acumen, and connect with potential customers and collaborators.
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province. The Regional Development Fund is comprised of the Regional Development Program and Community Capacity Building program. These two components provide a wide array of services and financial support to non-profit organizations, including industry associations, municipalities, public educational institutions and other non-profit groups including co-operatives and economic development organizations.
