Through the Innovation and Business Development Fund, the Provincial Government is supporting Avalon Holographics to advance the commercialization of its cutting-edge holographic display technology. The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced an investment of $1 million in Avalon Holographics to see the construction and installation of its next-generation holographic display system at a major U.S. Department of Energy facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The undertaking will enable the company to demonstrate its proprietary NOVAC holographic projector to key stakeholders in the energy and national security sectors. The installation at the Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology and Training Center will allow U.S. government agencies to evaluate the system’s capabilities and inform future procurement and funding decisions. This work will drive market development for Avalon’s technology and promote local innovation by building capabilities and investments in advanced holographics, resulting in growth and job creation in the province.

Founded in 2015, Avalon Holographics is a leader in the development of 3D holographic displays. With its headquarters in St. John’s, the company employs a highly skilled team of engineers and scientists, the majority of whom are based in Newfoundland and Labrador. The company’s technology offers an alternative to traditional virtual and augmented reality systems, eliminating common side effects such as nausea and fatigue.

The Innovation and Business Development Fund is focused on investments to grow Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil and gas supply and service capabilities, including opportunities to diversify capacities in other energy sectors. This project supports the development fund’s objectives by attracting external investment, promoting export readiness, and contributing to long-term job creation in Newfoundland and Labrador. This initiative also aligns with the goals of the province’s Renewable Energy Plan by fostering innovation and building local capacity in advanced technologies with applications across the energy sector.
