To support innovation, economic development and diversification in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced the first project to receive funding under the Provincial Government’s new Job Accelerator and Growth (JAG) Program.
In partnership with CGI, one of the largest independent IT and business consulting services firms in the world, the initiative will support the company’s expansion into Newfoundland and Labrador and the creation of up to 60 new jobs over three years, supporting local workforce development. To facilitate this growth, the Provincial Government will provide a maximum of $1.4 million in funding through the JAG Program.
This collaboration highlights the Provincial Government’s commitment to fostering industry partnerships, attracting investment, and building a strong, innovation-driven economy while creating meaningful job opportunities for residents.
The company will demonstrate long-term commitment to the province through its employment target commitments, physical presence in the form of a company office, and by supporting and leveraging students and new graduates from post-secondary institutions such as Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and Keyin College. As a member of techNL, the company also plans to support the further development of the local information and communications technology sector with potential for collaborations with techNL member companies.
The Job Accelerator and Growth Program aims to incentivize qualified, established and profitable companies to establish and grow in Newfoundland and Labrador. The program is a valuable tool to attract high-growth companies and inward investment in the province and builds on the success of other initiatives undertaken to support business growth.
Under the JAG Program, the Provincial Government rebates 10 to 15 per cent of payroll costs upon completion of each of the three years for new, eligible positions created and maintained. The average salary of eligible jobs supported by the JAG program must be at least $50,000.
Quote
“Having a world-class company expand to this province and create highly skilled, well-paid jobs in our rapidly growing tech sector will have a positive impact on our economy and is proof that the programs our government is offering lead to companies choosing to do business here. This will build on the reputation of the province as a hub for innovation, attracting global companies, world-leading research institutions and growing technology firms.”
