The Provincial Government is reminding the public that the Working Opportunities Program is accepting candidates who are interested in beginning their studies this September. The program provides financial support for non-EI eligible individuals, including those receiving Income Support, to pursue full-time post-secondary training in Newfoundland and Labrador.
As the fall academic season approaches, now is the ideal time to plan for a return to school. Individuals interested in post-secondary training this fall are encouraged to begin exploring funded training options the Provincial Government has available to residents, such as Working Opportunities. It takes a number of weeks for applicants to complete the steps required to be accepted into the program. This includes assessing skills, helping to find employment paths, and identifying how education will overcome barriers to these goals.
The program offers supports that may include tuition and training costs, a living allowance and child care. Eligible training must begin within Newfoundland and Labrador and be between 12 weeks and three years in length at a public or private training institution.
By supporting retraining and upskilling, Working Opportunities helps individuals transition into meaningful employment while addressing workforce shortages across the province.
The Working Opportunities Program is a key part of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Poverty Reduction Plan, which focuses on providing enhanced supports and removing barriers so more individuals can access the training they need to succeed.
