Industry partners, educators, community leaders and various levels of government participated in the Newfoundland and Labrador Jobs Forum Regional Summit in Baie Verte to discuss the evolving labour market and identify shared priorities to support the province’s economic growth.

The event, hosted by the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Jobs, Immigration and Growth, brought together key partners to exchange information around labour market dynamics in the region, with a particular focus on the mining sector.

The Baie Verte region is experiencing a surge in mining activity, positioning it as a critical driver of economic opportunity. Discussions focused on the urgent need for coordinated action to meet growing labour demands, address infrastructure gaps and ensure the community is equipped to support this expansion.

Participants received updates on economic and labour market conditions in the province, sector specifics, and government focused initiatives in support.

Feedback and insights from today’s summit will inform the development of a Labour Market Commitment Charter – a shared framework to guide collaborative efforts in building a resilient, responsive workforce across all sectors of the province’s economy.

The mining sector is growing rapidly, and with it comes the need for skilled workers, strong infrastructure and community support. By listening to local voices and working in partnership, we’re laying the foundation for long-term success, not just in Baie Verte, but across Newfoundland and Labrador.”
