The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Jobs, Immigration and Growth, is announcing more than $750,000 to establish a West Coast hub dedicated to supporting the integration of Ukrainians in the region. This announcement builds on almost $4.5 million in investments since 2024 that have supported newcomer integration in rural communities throughout the province and strengthen the capacity of cultural groups to grow, connect and thrive.
Located in Corner Brook, the new hub will provide integrated, bilingual services focused on cultural preservation, employment and entrepreneurship in western Newfoundland. It will feature gathering and childcare spaces, an office to support case management and integration services, and serve as the home of Ridna Shkola, a Ukrainian bilingual school offering youth programming, cultural events, and seasonal outdoor activities.
Strong integration supports have played a key role in the high retention and employment rates among Ukrainians who have chosen Newfoundland and Labrador as their home. This new funding represents an extension of these efforts, ensuring that Ukrainians seeking opportunities on the West Coast have the resources they need to build their lives in the area.
Funding for the employment-related aspects of this project is provided through the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement.
Quotes
“In the fourth year of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, our province remains committed to welcoming those seeking refuge. This new hub will ensure that Ukrainians settling on the West Coast have the support they need to build strong, vibrant lives here in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

“Newfoundland and Labrador’s people opened their doors to Ukrainians in 2022 and in return gained neighbours, co-workers, friends and family who are contributing to their communities. With this funding, Ukrainians who call western Newfoundland and Labrador home will be able to participate fully in local life, maintain and share their culture as they integrate, and use their skills and talents for the benefit of everyone in the region.”
