Under section 13.5 of the Fatalities Investigations Act, the Minister of Justice and Public Safety is required, within 60 days after receiving a report from the Child Death Review Committee (CDRC), to make public those recommendations relating to:
- Relevant protocols, policies and procedures.
- Standards and legislation.
- Linkages and coordination of services, and
- Improvements to services affecting children and pregnant women.
The CDRC forwarded a report to the Minister of Justice and Public Safety on March 31, 2025.
This report resulted in the following recommendation:
- The Child Death Review Committee recommends that a copy of the report be provided to the Department of Health and Community Services, NL Health Services and the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate. Additionally, the CDRC recommends that these entities consider the development and implementation of a robust public education campaign with respect to the risk factors associated with SIDS and undetermined infant deaths.
This report has been provided to the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, the Department of Health and Community Services and NL Health Services.
