Regional State of Emergency
A regional state of emergency was declared by the Minister of Justice and Public Safety for a portion of the Bay de Verde Peninsula, from Bristol’s Hope to Whiteway (the communities in the entirety of the Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde electoral district), due to out-of-control wildfires today. A regional state of emergency allows the province to co-ordinate the activities of all provincial and municipal services in the area and to engage personnel as required.
While this is NOT a full region evacuation, all impacted residents are asked to be prepared to evacuate their community on short notice.
Be Prepared
Residents need to take steps to ensure their own personal safety. Be prepared for at least 72 hours, with a basic emergency kit, including items such as food, water, batteries, a portable radio, important documents and prescription medications.
Mental Health
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, need support, or are looking for health information, call 811.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
