Effective tomorrow, Monday, August 18, the Provincial Government will re-open the Bay d’Espoir Highway (Route 360), which had previously closed with limited access due to the wildfire near Martin Lake. Traffic will resume normal flow starting at 8:00 a.m. in the area between the Sunday Pond Resource Road to the Cat Brook turnaround area.
Access to cabin areas in Rushy Pond Rd, Martin Lake Rd, and Miguels Lake Rd will remain closed. All other cabin access areas off the Bay d’Espoir Highway (Route 360) will be open effective 8:00 a.m.
Please note, the Martin Lake wildfire remains an active fire with air and ground crews continuing suppression efforts. Those travelling in the area are reminded to be aware of crews. Smoky conditions can also be expected.
Travelers are also reminded that an increase in fire behaviour could potentially lead to re-closure of the highway if conditions become unsafe.
Residents and cabin owners are asked to continue to monitor official Provincial Government sources for all updates, and are reminded that a province-wide fire ban is in effect in Newfoundland and Labrador.
