Wildfire Information

Kingston
While the Kingston fire remained active on the western and southwestern edges today, crews reported progress through aerial and ground suppression efforts. Smoky conditions were reported in the southwest corner.

There was no threat reported to Victoria or Salmon Cove today.

Light-capacity helicopters and ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario have been working the northwestern area, while five heavy-capacity helicopters were actioning the fire’s western edge.

Canadian Armed Forces ground crews, combined with volunteer firefighters, continued working the northern community areas today, as well as the eastern boundary.

Forecasted precipitation may impact aerial suppression in the morning, however ground crews will continue working on priority zones as planned regardless of weather.

Paddy’s Pond
The Paddy’s Pond fire is still hot and smoky, but there were no surprises for crews today. Fuel break construction and ground suppression have helped contain the wildfire, with boundaries continuing to hold.

Provincial ground crews worked with firefighters from British Columbia and the Canadian Armed Forces on hot spots, but no aerial support was required on this fire today. Most of the perimeter of this fire has been contained.

Martin Lake
Bucketing helicopters continued aerial suppression today. Ground crews, including firefighters from Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia, continued to make progress working all quadrants of the fire today.

Residents can expect a reduction in smoke tomorrow, but should note the fire is still active.

Temporary Restriction on all Off-Road Vehicles on Forested Land Extended
The restriction on all off-road vehicles will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2025, when it will be reviewed based on the forecasted wildfire index and fire behaviours. For more details, see: www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2025/ffa/0817n04/
