Wildfire Information
Kingston
Favourable weather conditions and high relative humidity reduced fire behaviour and supported strong suppression efforts on the Kingston wildfire today. There has been no change in size.
Aerial supports were able to action the fire throughout the day, beginning with heavy capacity helicopters this morning. Once the ceiling lifted and fog cleared around noon, five water bombers from Quebec and Ontario worked the north and western edges of the wildfire and moved towards the southern boundary. As they timed out, they were replaced by Newfoundland and Labrador’s four water bombers that worked into the evening. The same air missions will be repeated tomorrow, maximizing full air support.
Ground crews from the province and Ontario continued suppression at the northern edge and along the southern boundary of the wildfire. Local fire departments focused on structure protection and the Canadian Armed Forces addressed persistent hot spots.
Paddy’s Pond
The wildfire at Paddy’s Pond continues to hold along its boundary and remains classified as “Being Held”. Ground crews from British Columbia worked the southeast corner and the western edge along the transmission line, focusing on wildfire complete containment. This work will continue tomorrow.
Martin Lake
The status of the Martin Lake wildfire has been upgraded from “Out of Control”, to “Being Held”. Future growth of this fire is not anticipated. Ground crews continue to make good progress, actioning hot spots throughout the day with helicopters bucketing to assist with containment. Tomorrow’s plan is very much the same as the last few days, building on the success of ground crew suppression.
Temporary Restriction on ALL Off-Road Vehicles on Forested Land Lifted
The temporary restriction on off-road vehicles will end tonight at 11:59 p.m. The province-wide fire ban remains in effect in Newfoundland and Labrador. This ban will be in place until at least September 7, when a determination will be made about its status.
