Wildfire Information
Kingston
The Kingston wildfire experienced low fire activity today due to cloudy conditions and high relative humidity. Ground crews carried out their assignments as planned, aided by thermal scan maps provided by PAL Aerospace.
Water bombers were on standby and helicopters actioned the fire. Ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and British Columbia were on site today with personnel from the Canadian Armed Forces and volunteer fire fighters. All heavy capacity helicopters have been working to support ground crews and hot spot suppression.
Paddy’s Pond
Ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador were on site at Paddy’s Pond actioning hot spots as planned today, with assistance from a light capacity helicopter. The Paddy’s Pond wildfire is classified as “Under Control,” which means the wildfire has received sufficient suppression action to ensure there will be no further spread.
Martin Lake
Helicopter support at Martin Lake was delayed earlier today due to weather, but bucketing was able to resume in the afternoon. Ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia were assigned to assessing the area and cutting down trees. Thermal scan maps are still being finalized and will be used to plan tomorrow’s assignments. The fire is still classified as “Being Held,” which means with the current committed resources and based on prevailing and forecasted conditions, sufficient action has been taken to prevent fire spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries.
Route 360 (Bay d’Espoir Highway) remains clear with no concerns.
