Wildfire Information
Kingston
The status of the Kingston wildfire has been changed to “Being Held.” Dedicated suppression efforts by both air and ground crews and favourable weather have prevented the fire from spreading further beyond its current boundaries, estimated at 10,095 hectares.
Today, ground crews from Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia, and local fire departments completed a full day of suppression efforts with crews working to locate and address hot spots. Aerial assets were grounded due to weather conditions this morning but heavy capacity helicopters were active along the western edge this afternoon into the evening to assist with hot spot suppression.
Weather conditions for the coming days are expected to be favourable, with increased humidity, cooler temperatures, and a likelihood of rain. The Incident Management Team continues to focus crews in areas where hot spots remain active. In some locations, these hot spots are as deep as six feet into the ground, resulting in persistent smoke.
Martin Lake
The Martin Lake wildfire remains under control. Over the coming days, ground crews from the province will continue their efforts to locate and suppress hot spots. Resource roads in the cabin areas around Martin Lake have re-opened. Cabin owners may notice light smoke over the next few weeks. If you see open flames or thick smoke, please report it immediately.
Paddy’s Pond
The Paddy’s Pond wildfire has been declared out, thanks to the tremendous efforts of ground and aerial suppression crews, volunteer fire departments, and Canadian Armed Forces members.
