Under section 13.5 of the Fatalities Investigations Act, the Minister of Justice and Public Safety is required, within 60 days after receiving a report from the Child Death Review Committee (CDRC), to make public those recommendations relating to:
- Relevant protocols, policies and procedures.
- Standards and legislation.
- Linkages and coordination of services.
- Improvements to services affecting children and pregnant women.
The CDRC forwarded a report to the Minister of Justice and Public Safety on July 7, 2025.
This report resulted in the following recommendation:
- The Child Death Review Committee recommends that the departments of Government Modernization and Service Delivery and Justice and Public Safety consider a public education campaign which emphasizes the legal requirements and penalty provisions of the Off-Road Safety Act (Act) and Regulations, related to the operation of off-road vehicles by children and the responsibilities of owners and supervisors.
This report has been forwarded to the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate and the recommendation has been provided to the Department of Government Modernization and Service Delivery and the Department of Justice and Public Safety.
