Media Advisory: Minister Conway Ottenheimer to attend Emergency Management Meetings in Toronto

The Honourable Helen Conway Ottenheimer, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, will participate in the Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Leaders Emergency Management meetings taking place in Toronto this week.

The meetings will bring together emergency management leaders from across Canada to discuss key priorities and collaborative strategies to strengthen national and regional preparedness and response capabilities.

Agenda items include:

  • Advancing a national emergency management strategy
  • Enhancing response planning and capacity across jurisdictions
  • Addressing opportunities and challenges in northern and remote communities
  • Co-developing emergency management principles in partnership with Indigenous organizations.

Minister Conway Ottenheimer will highlight Newfoundland and Labrador’s recent experiences with wildfires and the province’s ongoing efforts to improve emergency preparedness, including investments in training, equipment, and community resilience.

Communiqué
A joint communiqué on behalf of federal, provincial, and territorial ministers responsible for emergency management will be distributed to media after their meeting on November 14. The Canadian Intergovernmental Conference Secretariat, a third party, will post the communiqué to their website.

Public Safety Canada will share the communiqué to the wire and post a link to it on social media, along with a group photo of ministers.

Members of the media are invited to join the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, along with co-chair Jill Dunlop, Ontario’s Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response, for a press conference during the Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) meeting of Ministers responsible for emergency management on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Following their remarks, Ministers Olszewski and Dunlop will take questions from the media.
