ParksNL would like to thank park patrons for their cooperation in complying with the temporary wildfire mitigation efforts that were enacted this weekend.
The Provincial Government is maintaining some of its temporary wildfire prevention measures in Provincial Parks. Ongoing vigilance is essential to ensure the safety of all visitors to these natural areas as we continue to navigate these challenging conditions.
To help mitigate future risks, the following measures will remain in effect:
- In parks with campgrounds, smoking is permitted only within designated graveled campsites. Campers are asked to dispose of cigarette butts responsibly by placing them in water-filled vessels.
- Smoking is prohibited in all Day Use Parks and Park Reserves, including T’Railway Provincial Park.
- The use of burning devices, including propane fire pits, is prohibited. Gas-burning devices are permitted solely for cooking purposes.
ParksNL advises that generator use is once again permitted with the following conditions:
- Generators must never be left unattended.
- Generators must only be used on hardened surfaces within campsites, and must be operated away from flammable materials and fuels.
- Generator exhausts must be oriented away from vegetation.
ParksNL reserves the right to restrict generator use at any time if it poses a hazard or nuisance. The permitted hours for generator operation may also be revised as needed.
The Provincial Government will notify the public when these restrictions are able to be lifted.
ParksNL staff will continue to closely monitor all campsites for compliance. If you observe any violations of these measures while visiting a Provincial Park, please alert ParksNL staff immediately. For all other inquiries, please contact info@parksnl.ca.
