Strategic investments by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, in collaboration with PictureNL, have helped drive over $1 billion in film and television production spending since the inception of the lead agency for film industry development. This milestone reflects the province’s emergence as a national leader in screen sector development, innovation and economic impact.
Since rebranding from the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation, PictureNL has expanded its mandate to promote the province as a premier destination for both domestic and international productions. In 2024 alone, production activity reached over $87 million, supporting nearly 1,500 full-time jobs and contributing to a cumulative total of more than $926 million in production spending since the agency’s inception.
Filming underway this year has pushed the total production spending to more than $1 billion.
Key drivers of industry growth include the introduction of modern and robust incentives such as the All-Spend Film and Video Production Tax Credit, and the Paul L. Pope Centre for Film and Television, a state-of-the-art training facility operated by the College of the North Atlantic which prepares emerging talent for careers in film and TV.
As Newfoundland and Labrador continues to attract global attention for its cinematic landscapes, skilled crews, and competitive incentives, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation remains committed to supporting the creative industries and sharing the province’s stories with audiences around the world.
To mark this momentum, PictureNL will host a signature celebration in the coming months, bringing together industry professionals, government partners, and community stakeholders. The event will showcase the province’s production strengths, spectacular locations, and the partnerships that have driven the success of Newfoundland and Labrador’s film and television sector.
