Through an investment of more than $24 million from provincial, federal and municipal governments, the Marina Redmond Centre is now completed and open to serve the recreational needs of the people of Corner Brook. The facility was officially opened over the weekend by the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Jobs, Immigration and Growth, and His Worship, Jim Parsons, Mayor of Corner Brook.
The centre includes a 25-metre swimming pool; a leisure pool that can be used by swimmers to cool down or prepare for a race; lazy river, freestanding waterslide, water fountain and water bucket features; gymnasium; fitness centre; sauna and a multipurpose room.
Accessibility is a very important aspect of this new recreational facility, as can be seen with such features as a mobile lift that is available to access both pools; a zero-entry leisure pool that can be accessed by walking in, or in a wheelchair; along with accessible and inclusive changerooms.
The centre has been named in honour of Marina Redmond who served the City of Corner Brook for 27 years before her passing in 2024. Ms. Redmond was known for her passion for sports and recreation, particularly her volunteer and organizational roles with soccer and basketball. In recent years, she established a pickleball program that attracted players of all ages.
Budget 2025 includes $188.7 million for community infrastructure projects being completed under the Municipal Capital Works Program, the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and the new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund.
