The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gain an understanding of the market availability of roll-on roll-off ferries that could be used to expand the intra-provincial ferry fleet in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The information collected through the RFI will be used to:
- Determine the suitability of available vessels to service the various routes across the province.
- Survey the pricing models offered by suppliers.
- Inform decisions regarding specifications and minimum requirements for potential future procurements.
Through support of approximately $104 million in Budget 2025, the Provincial Government manages a ferry fleet that transports approximately 761,000 passengers, 401,000 vehicles, and 15,700 tonnes of freight annually. The ferry system serves as an essential and strategic link between the Island of Newfoundland and Labrador and provides access to 11,000 residents of remote and isolated communities. Investment in the provincial ferry fleet provides safe and reliable ferry services and supports local economies.
Information on the Request for Information, as well as all tenders issued and awarded by the department and other public bodies, is available by visiting www.merx.com/govnl.
