A total of 21 projects valued at more than $9 million have been approved under the Municipal Capital Works Program.

Municipal infrastructure improvements are important factors in the overall well-being of residents throughout the province and also lead to employment for tradespeople and economic benefits for towns and communities.

The projects include water system improvements, water study, shore protection, water and sewer upgrades, and lift station upgrades. A complete list of the projects can be found in the backgrounder below.

The Municipal Capital Works program fosters the development of cost-shared projects for many types of municipal infrastructure. Typical projects include water and wastewater treatment, seawalls, roads, recreational facilities, town halls, and fire halls.

Funding is cost-shared between provincial and municipal governments and is available to municipalities, local service districts, and Indigenous Governments. More information on initiatives to facilitate and build on municipal capital works throughout the province can be found here.

Budget 2025 includes $188.7 million for community infrastructure projects being completed under the Municipal Capital Works Program, the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, and the new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The Municipal Capital Works (MCW) Program is now open for the 2026–2027 intake. This program supports cost-shared infrastructure projects across Newfoundland and Labrador, including water and wastewater systems, roads, recreational facilities, and more.
