Today, the Provincial Government is announcing support for the residents and families of Trepassey and surrounding communities following recent storm damage that has impacted the region.

Recognizing the stress and disruption caused by repeated storm events, the new government has made it a priority to address the issue. As part of this commitment, construction will begin this fall on a new breakwater in Trepassey.

The tender for the breakwater construction will be awarded shortly. Provincial Government officials are working closely with the Town of Trepassey, which has shown exceptional leadership and commitment in addressing the challenges caused by recent storms. In partnership, the town and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure have developed enhanced engineering plans and are preparing to launch the project as soon as possible.

The Honourable Barry Petten, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, will join area MHA and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Honourable Loyola O’Driscoll, in the House of Assembly scrum area this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the project.

This investment reflects the Provincial Government’s commitment to building resilient infrastructure and protecting coastal communities from the increasing impacts of climate change.
