The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality, will bring greetings on behalf of the Provincial Government at the unveiling of the Armine Nutting Gosling Statue tomorrow (Wednesday, June 18).
The event, which includes a variety of musical entertainment, takes place at Bannerman Park on Military Road in St. John’s, starting at 12:00 p.m.
The minister will be joined by Her Honour The Honourable Joan Marie Aylward, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador; Sheilagh O’ Leary, Deputy Mayor of the City of St. John’s; Dr. Margot Duley, Chair of the Raise Her Up statue campaign; Michael Keegan, great-grandson of Armine Nutting Gosling; and Sheila Coultas, the statue’s creator.
Armine Nutting Gosling was a trailblazer, whose unwavering determination helped secure the right to vote for women in Newfoundland and Labrador on April 3, 1925. This statue is a testament to her courage, resilience, and the progress the Women’s Franchise League fought for – reminding us that democracy is strongest when all voices are heard.
