Today, the Honourable Paul Dinn, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, recognized February 9-13 as Education Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The theme this year is Learn! Teach! Inspire! reflects the heart of what happens in our schools every day.

Minister Dinn was joined by Dale Lambe, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association (NLTA), in the proclamation signing.

Education Week is a time to celebrate the educational experience of students, teachers and staff, and appreciate the dedication to support positive, inclusive learning and teaching spaces for all members of the K-12 education system.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Education is actively working with the NLTA to address concerns raised by the association, including:

• Recruiting and retaining teachers.
• Improving working conditions.
• Reducing class sizes.
• Addressing school violence.
• Increasing mental health and classroom supports.

The Provincial Government is committed to building a well-rounded education system that will prepare youth for the future by improving learning environments and strengthening the basics in education, including reading, writing, math, science and computer skills.
