The Provincial Government is recognizing the valued contribution of teachers and staff in schools in the public education system in Newfoundland and Labrador as it celebrates Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, February 9-13.
Since 1988, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, created by the Canadian Home and School Federation, has highlighted the work of teachers, administrators and school staff who are committed to supporting the educational experiences of children and youth.
Schools in the public education system in Newfoundland and Labrador are home to approximately 10,900 permanent and casual school staff working as teachers, administrators and support staff throughout the province’s school system.
The Provincial Government recognizes the important role teachers and staff play in supporting students, developing Newfoundland and Labrador’s next generation of thinkers and leaders, and helping students reach their full potential.
The Provincial Government is committed to building a well-rounded education system that will prepare youth for the future by improving learning environments and strengthening the basics in education, including reading, writing, math, science and computer skills.
Quotes
“Every successful student has numerous dedicated teachers and staff that have helped them reach their potential. Teachers and support staff provide invaluable support to our students, and I thank everyone for their contribution day in and out. We appreciate their dedication as they encourage our youth to shoot for the stars as they move forward on the path of their academic journeys”.
Honourable Paul Dinn
Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development
“Great schools are built by people who give their whole hearts to the work, who show up each day with an unwavering belief in the promise and potential of every child. The impact of our teachers and school staff reaches far beyond lessons and schedules, it shapes confidence, nurtures character, and changes lives. Much of this work happens quietly and without recognition, yet it leaves a lasting mark in the lives of students and families. On behalf of the Federation of School Councils, we extend our deepest gratitude to our teachers and school staff for the compassion, commitment, and life-changing difference they make every day.”
