Resource Enforcement Division Seeking Public Assistance on Moose Poaching Incident

Resource Enforcement Officers are seeking information related to a suspected moose poaching incident near the Town of Heart’s Delight-Islington in Trinity Bay.

Officers from Whitbourne Detachment responded to a complaint regarding a calf moose shot on the pole line in the vicinity of Fox Farm Road near Islington on or about January 6, 2026.

Investigating officers discovered the fresh remains of a male calf moose in the area including the head, internal organs, tissue and blood. Fresh all-terrain vehicle tracks were also identified at the scene. The moose is believed to have been removed from the area by two all-terrain vehicles and a trailer.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Resource Enforcement Division, St. John’s Detachment at 709-729-2192. Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed two all-terrain vehicles, one of which was towing a trailer, operating near Fox Farm Road during the late afternoon/early evening hours on or about January 6, 2026.
