Over the coming weeks, wildlife officials with the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands will be conducting caribou surveys using low-level flying aircraft in the following areas:
- Cape Shore
- Southeast Avalon Peninsula (focusing on the Avalon Wilderness Reserve)
- Burin Peninsula
- Gander region
Some caribou will be marked with temporary red, orange or blue paint as part of the survey requirements. The paint does not impact caribou – it will remain on the animals for the winter and will be shed with their winter coats in the spring.
