Public Advisory: Evacuation Order Lifted for Affected Areas in the Town of Badger

  • Justice and Public Safety

February 4, 2026

The Provincial Government is advising impacted residents that the Town of Badger is lifting its evacuation order today (Wednesday, February 4).

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, supported by Newfoundland and Labrador Ground Search and Rescue, will be on-site to control traffic, to ensure safe and timely access.

Welcome Home
The Pentecostal Church, 35 Buchans Highway, will be open today from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for impacted residents to be ‘welcomed home’. During this time, information will be available to impacted residents on how to safely return to their homes. Cleaning supplies will be available to those in need.

Returning Home
Impacted residents are reminded to take extra precautions when returning home or to a business. Check for hazards prior to entering. Unseen dangers may linger and using caution can help reduce potential injuries.

Insurance companies will need to be contacted to discuss claim options, or to examine issues due to mould. Take pictures and/or video and start a list of damaged belongings.

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory
Residents are reminded that a precautionary Boil Water Advisory is still in effect for users of the town water supply. While household water can still be used for washing, cleaning, bathing and other household uses, all water intended for consumption must be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for a minimum of one minute before use.

The advisory will remain in effect until system integrity has been confirmed and water quality testing demonstrates that the water is safe for consumption.

Private wells will need to be properly disinfected with chlorine and flushed out. Well water should not be consumed until testing confirms that bacterial contamination has been removed.

Free water testing kits can be picked up at the Government Services office in Grand Falls-Windsor, 3 Cromer Avenue.
