Provincial Government Highlights Strong Economic Impact of 2025 Jeux du Canada Games

The Honourable Andrea Barbour, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, welcomes the significant economic benefits that the 2025 Jeux du Canada Games have brought to Newfoundland and Labrador, noting the event’s substantial and far‑reaching impact on the province.

Sport Tourism Canada’s STEAMPRO economic impact assessment confirms that the 2025 Games provided a strong return on investment created through visitor spending, operational expenditures, and strategic capital investments. Benefits that will continue to support the province’s economy for years to come.

The Economic Impact Assessment provides a detailed analysis of the economic gains associated with hosting the Games, including spending by visiting spectators, event organizers’ operational costs, and investments in new and upgraded facilities. The Games generated more than $272 million in economic activity nationwide, including over $193 million in the province and $180 million in the City of St. John’s.

This past summer the 2025 Jeux du Canada Games brought more than 5,000 athletes, coaches, and managers from across the country to compete in 19 sports. Supported by thousands of volunteers, staff, and partners, the event became the largest Canada Games ever held, championing inclusion, celebrating local culture, and showcasing the best of Newfoundland and Labrador.
