The following statement is from the Honourable Andrea Barbour, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation:
As Anne Chafe prepares to retire from her role as CEO of The Rooms, we recognize the depth and significance of her contribution to the institution and to the cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Over four decades as an arts, culture, and heritage professional – and nearly 20 years in leadership and senior roles at The Rooms – Ms. Chafe has been a thoughtful steward of one of the province’s most important public institutions.
She led The Rooms during a period of considerable transition, navigating complexity and uncertainty while maintaining focus on the organization’s public mandate. Her approach to leadership fostered confidence, continuity, and a strong sense of responsibility to audiences, the board, and staff. The strength and stability of the institution today reflect that careful and principled leadership.
Beyond the organization itself, Ms. Chafe’s influence is evident in the broader cultural sector. Her work has helped strengthen the role of arts, heritage, and museums within public life in this province, leaving an imprint that will continue to be felt well into the future.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation will consult with The Rooms board of directors and engage with the Independent Appointments Commission on the recruitment process for a new CEO.
