The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure would like to advise the public to slow down and exercise caution when travelling on the Tailrace Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway (Route 1) in Deer Lake. The recent rainfall has caused potholes along the structure.
Motorists are advised that traffic speed has been reduced to 30 kilometres per hour on the bridge.
Signage is in place and departmental crews are currently on site to make temporary repairs. A contractor has been engaged for longer-term repairs which will begin next week. Replacement of the bridge is scheduled to begin during the 2026 road construction season.
Details on highway construction projects are available on www.nl511.ca and the NL 511 smartphone app.
