Home Support Program

The Home Support Program assists people in Newfoundland and Labrador to live safely and independently at home, for as long as possible. It offers non-professional support with everyday tasks, tailored to each person’s unique needs.

Who Can Access Support?

The program is available to:

  • Seniors (65+) with a care need.
  • Adults and children with disabilities.
  • Individuals receiving end-of-life care.
  • People recovering at home after a hospital stay.

What Services Are Provided?

  • Personal Care: Help with bathing, dressing, eating, mobility, and toileting.
  • Homemaking: Light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation.
  • Respite Care: Short-term relief for caregivers.
  • Behavioural Support: For individuals with behaviour needs , provided by a Behaviour Management Specialist through tailored interventions.

How Services Are Delivered

Individuals can choose the care model that works best for them:

  1. Self-Managed Care: Individuals hire and manage their own support worker.
  2. Paid Family Caregiving: Individuals hire a family member (excluding spouses) to provide care.
  3. Agency-Managed Care: Services are provided by an approved home support agency. Home support agencies are monitored and approved by NL Health Services.
