Personal Care Home Program

Personal Care Homes offer a supportive living environment for seniors and other adults who may need help with daily activities but do not require on-site nursing services These homes are privately owned and operated.

NL Health Services monitors and licenses homes to ensure compliance with the Personal Care Home Regulations and the Provincial Personal Care Home Operational Standards.

Who Can Access Support?

  • Seniors and other adults with care needs related to activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, dressing, mobility)*.
  • Individuals whose spouse has been clinically assessed and approved for personal care home admission, and who wish to remain together.
  •  Individuals with complex care needs who may benefit from respite or Short Stay Option. A temporary placement (up to 30 days) in a Personal Care Home while longer-term plans are developed.

*Individuals who do not have a care need may choose to enter a personal care home through a private agreement.

What Services are Provided?

  • Assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, etc.).
  • Opportunities for social engagement and meaningful activities.
  • 24-hour supervision and safety monitoring.
  • Medication assistance, if required
  • Meal and housekeeping services.
  • Access to visiting health professionals when needed.
