Active Schools
Active Schools is an initiative designed to increase physical activity for children and youth in the K – 12 school system. Active Schools is not designed to replace physical education, but rather to ensure that students receive daily physical activity even when there is no scheduled physical education class. The program provides activity ideas, curricular resources, teacher training, and equipment to deliver physical activity during instructional and non-instructional time throughout the school day. As an example, it may provide an activity in Social Studies, Math or English that may include active learning strategies designed to increase physical movement in a classroom setting or in the outdoor environment to learn about the curriculum.
