World Oceans Day
June 8 is World Oceans Day, a special day commemorated annually around the world to celebrate our oceans, the many benefits they provide, and those who earn a livelihood in ocean-related industries and organizations. The theme for 2024 is Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing.
Officials from the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture are members of the NL World Ocean Day Committee, along with representatives from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Parks Canada, World Wildlife Fund Canada, Canadian Parks Wilderness Society – NL Chapter, and the Marine Institute of Memorial University. The committee offers fun-filled, educational, ocean-themed events including games, arts and crafts, touch tanks, science demonstrations and music. Check them out at World Oceans Day – Newfoundland and Labrador.
