Long-Term Job Forecast – Department of Finance:

The Department of Finance in Newfoundland and Labrador shares job forecasts every few years. The latest report came out in June 2023.

This report shows:

  • How many workers will be needed in different jobs from 2023 to 2032.
  • How many people might leave their jobs (called attrition).
  • How many job openings there could be in 186 job types.
  • How good the job prospects are for each job, using the National Occupational Classification system (NOC 2021).

Short-Term Job Forecast – Job Bank:

Each year, Service Canada studies job prospects and wages across Canada. This helps people make smart choices about school, training and work. For Newfoundland and Labrador here are some important reports:

  • Job outlooks cover the years 2024 to 2026.
  • Wage information comes from different sources and time periods.
  • There’s also a special report that looks at how jobs changed during the COVID-19 pandemic and what might happen next.

 

Post-Secondary Schools in Newfoundland and Labrador

  • Memorial University of Newfoundland: The only university in the province. It has campuses in St. John’s, Corner Brook (Grenfell), England (Harlow), and Signal Hill. It also includes special schools like the Marine Institute and nursing schools.
  • College of the North Atlantic: A public college with 17 campuses across the province. It offers over 100 full-time programs in areas like health care, engineering, trades, business, IT, tourism, and the arts.
  • Private Training Institutions: There are 22 private schools in the province. They offer programs in trades, health care, business, IT, and other careers like cosmetology, esthetics, legal services, and aviation.
