Protected Road Zoning Plans
Please see general information about Protected Roads under the Urban and Rural Planning Act, 2000 – Municipal and Community Affairs and information to direct you to Government Services for a development permit.
Roads in the table below listed as having no plan will be subject to zoning under a municipality’s development regulations if the road runs through a municipal planning area. If the road is listed as having no plan and does not run through a municipal planning area, refer to section 6 of the Protected Road Zoning Regulations.
Also note that building control lines run along protected roads regardless of whether or not the road/highway runs through a municipal planning area. Refer to section 5 of the Protected Road Zoning Regulations for more information about building control lines. In general, for lands located within a building control line of a protected road that is also subject to a municipal plan and development regulations, the municipal zoning directs the use; however, there is dual jurisdiction for development permits from both authorities. i.e. Development permits are required not only from the municipality, but also from Government Services. This is to protect the interests of the Province for the integrity of the provincial highway system, and the local municipality responsible for controlling development.
Amendment numbers that appear to be missing are likely amendments that were refused, cancelled, or withdrawn.
